My base period is going well. I’m able to do a lot more miles than I was able to last year. I’m currently in the middle of my third consecutive long week and am beginning to feel fatigued. Now that I have a better idea of what proper planning involves, I have been able to put in more good workouts while optimizing my rest time. Next week will be a well deserved rest week, but I’m sure it’s going to be tough to stay off the bike. I’m really feeling strong, healthy, and rested… which isn’t something I’ve felt since early last year. I’ve just got to maintain this until the race season rolls around. It’s tough to hold back when I see guys hammering, etc… but I know better. I’m going to cut down the miles for next week and leave in the really basic intensity workouts that the coach has recommended. Now for some sleep, because I still have some long miles left this week.
Still alive, putting in miles…
October 18, 2006Well, I haven’t had much time to post… I’m back up in Davis and I’m putting in tons of base miles. I’m also hitting the gym 3 times per week, so I’m feeling really strong. I’m pretty confident about the upcoming season — I’ve definitely improved. Last week was my biggest mileage week ever with 260mi excluding commuting. I can’t wait to start racing again… I was feeling really worn out at the end of the Summer but with a chance to rest, I’m feeling much better. My posts will probably become more frequent when the base training ends. Now for some sleep!
